Ingredients
- 2 cups light brown sugar, packed
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- ½ cup milk (whole or evaporated)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Prep the pan: Grease or line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment paper.
- Cook the base: In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, butter, and milk. Heat over medium, stirring constantly, until melted and smooth.
- Simmer: Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and simmer 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Cool slightly: Remove from heat, stir in vanilla, and let cool 5 minutes.
- Beat: Gradually beat in powdered sugar until smooth and creamy. Fold in nuts if using.
- Set: Pour into prepared pan and spread evenly.
- Chill: Refrigerate 1–2 hours until firm, then cut into small squares.
